The Beginning

My parents were both arts educators. There was always a lot going on. My mother tried to melt glass in our kitchen oven on purpose. She was a founding member of Printmakers Inc. at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, Va. My dad, a ceramicist, and photographer, made box kites out of the Sunday comics and kinetic sculptures for his school library. In high school, I had access to the Education Departments at the National Portrait Gallery and National Museum of American History where we learned oil painting and lithography. I studied color theory from Joy Luke at the Art League/Torpedo Factory, as well as portraiture from Danni Dawson. I focused on printmaking and portraits for many years.
